2004 6.0 210K Miles
Having some issues, in some cases, with cold soak first thing in the morning start. No problems during the day after it has started in the AM.
I seem to have IPR that builds to somewhere in the 900's during cranking before the truck will start. Later in the day on a normal quick start it starts at 580and stays at about 580 at idle level.( MY IPR levels raise to 3 to 4,000 on heavy acceleration when running so seems to be running normally)
ICV also seems to increase from .25 up to to about 1.0 during cranking on the cold soak start.
FICM reading 48 V
I seem to have high pressure oil so am a bit stumped. Have recently replaced the engine and injector wiring harness and this seems to have started right after that. Also as a new set of injectors stand pipes and dummy plugs in last 12K miles.
Other than this truck runs very smoothly.
I have always been used to her firing pretty much immediately when I turn the key which she does during the day, but sometimes in the morning it can take between 5 and 15 seconds cranking to get her to fire.
OK was parked on pretty level ground with very slight slope towards front of truck and had a 15 second crank this morning. Again ICP up at 985 for a while while cranking before she fired and ICV up at 1.0. Second trip of the day she fired right up.
Will try and move truck down the driveway a bit where I get a bit more slope and see what happens.
What are you aiming at Cheezit? I have previously always parked in same level spot without startup problems. My suspicion is lack of HP oil flow from drain down overnight, but why am I seeing sufficient oil pressure.

Thanks for all your help by the way

What Cheezit is referring to is a HPOP leak although I don't know why you're showing ICP and it doesn't have it. Try disconnecting the ICP sensor in the morning and see how fast it cranks. Have you code scanned the truck? If you're using an SGII it won't scan your truck for codes. Are you sure that the engine is cranking fast enough? IIRC too low cranking RPM's won't allow the engine to fire either.
Does the dash gauge come up fairly fast in the morning when you first start cranking on it?
Which dash gauge are you referring to. I generally only observe the scan gauge II readings (Immediately I manually turn on the scan gauge it normally shows the previous shut down reading around 585, drops to 1 to 5, then increases up to 950 when cranking and settles back to 585 when she eventually fires and idles)
FYI its not a rough start just a slow start and by that I mean she runs very smoothly immediately she first fires, so their is no catching and dying while cranking, just an all or nothing if that makes sense.

Doesn't show any codes.

SGII won't read codes on an 04. The dash gauge I'm referring to is the oil pressure gauge.
What Cheezit was referring to in his post was that if you park your truck in a particular orientation the HPOP and/or HPOP reservoir can lose it's oil. it might take a bit to get everything "primed back up" so she'll fire. Once you get it going the oil is all there and not a problem to start. I think it's from the pump shaft seal going bad?
Does that mean a complete new HPOP or can just the seals be replaced.
Truck is at 210K so need to figure that into the decision.
I understand the concept that the oil is draining down and needs to be filled back up throughout the rail
Still a little mystified as to why I am getting oil pressure while cranking but no immediate fire up with that pressure
Does this need immediate attention because I can live with the slow start for a week or two or will it turn into a catastrophic no start condition.
Any help with a parts list for the project including all seals. For example does the new STC fitting come with the new HPOP and would it be normal to change out the IPR valve at the same time as well as replace the turbo drain pipe and O rings while its out.
Would prefer to be able to order all parts from Bear Lake Tousley in advance.
Man I thought I had done everything I could on this truck and its still eating me alive. Great when it runs but expensive to keep running.
X2 what Josh said and I will add just for the heck of it after the truck sits over night before you turn the key on remove the secondary fuel filter and see if there is any fuel in the filter housing, I have read that a failing fuel pump will allow the fuel to drain back to the tank through the pump, I guess another way this could be proven out is to let the truck sit with the key on for 15 seconds or so before you attempt to start it. Im betting the HPO system is fine if you are showing ICP greater than 500 while cranking. Another thing you could do if you know someone who has a 6.0L is swap the FICM with a known good one and see if that does it.
you have oil pressure because there is enugh in the sump but not enugh to keep you going so it will read it. thats the hard part about this type of thing
