Decode Engine Tag Please

Found the engine tag under the grease. Bolted to the block near the coil.

I'll give it my best shot. If ND spots your post he can fix my mistakes. 300 = cubic inches. 65 = model year. 1 = change level. 4 = year of production ('64). L = month produced - November ("I" is not used). 832-J is some kind of engine code that I don't have the answer to. Hope this helps some!

832-J is the ID tag code that I don't have the answer to.
832: I-6 300 Light Duty with Ford (Auto-Lite) 1V carburetor, VIN engine code B.

Parts catalog doesn't say what the J after 832 refers to.

So the door tag(which is correct for the truck) indicates a 300ci, the engine tag indicates 300ci., so I beleive it's a 300ci. The decal on the air cleaner is a 240 ci 150 hp decal, which I realize on a 48 year old now 3 owner truck could have easily had the air cleaner changed. Looking in the NPD catalog the only 300ci decal they show is for a '67(I realize there repo catalog is not the authoritative source). Is there really not a 300ci decal until '67? Did Ford just keep slapping on 240 decals until they ran out?

What's the official HP and Torque ratings on a '65 300ci.

Thanks

240/300 share the same block, the bore (4.00") is the same. Measure the stroke to verify engine size as the truck is 48 years old and people love to swap parts around.

240 = 3.18" / 300 = 3.98."

Any way to measure the stroke with out taking the head off?

Stiff wire down the plug hole, TDC to BDC. 3.18 vs. 3.98 is a large enough to make it obvious methinks.
