Can anyone tell me how to identify the engine in my 65 F250?
The VIN is F26JK709672. It may not be the original engine.
One source I have for the VIN engine code says "J" is a 232. The air cleaner says 240 CID. There is also an aluminum tag behind one of the coil bolts that is stamped:
"240 65 2
5-F 816-J"

The only thing I'd add is you should measure the bore using the dowel trick and compare the casting code and date code from the engine to see if it agrees with the tag. Casting code is by the starter; the "date" will be a 4 digit code die stamped into the flat area above the water pump but below the head. These final details may help pin down whether the engine is original.[/FONT]
