64 engine Q
OK so i am not really sure how to tell so maybe you could tell me how to tell or even maybe what it is..i have a 64 shortbox straight 6 can i just assume its a 223 or could it maybe be a 262? how can i look at it and tell? im really new to old ford haha

The 4th digit of the VIN is the engine code: B = 262 I-6 / J = 223 I-6.
But who knows after 48 years have passed by, if the I-6 is original to the truck?
The only way to tell a 223 from a 262 is to measure the stroke, because both engines look identical.
Stroke: 223 = 3.60" / 262 = 4.03."
