Engine decoding

Hi, I’m rebuilding my ford 300 that’s in my 66 f100, my machining guy told me it was 1965 but we don’t know if it was originally a 240 or if it actually was a 65. We know for sure it’s a 300 right now because he measured the crank (someone could’ve just swapped the crank since the 240 and 300 are the same blocks.
My machinists said the C meant the decade and the 5 meant the specific year meaning 65 and my truck was built December 65 so maybe it is the original?
ENGINE CODE: C5AE-6015-F

I’m most curious as to what it came out of ,thanks!

The casting code only tells you what it was originally designed for, C5 = 1965 model year, A = full size Ford, E = Engine. 6015 is the Ford code for a block, F is the revision. It is not a date code nor does it tell you what it originally came out of. There usually is a date code, but I don't know where it is on those blocks.

Do you think that it could be the original motor since the truck was built in December 65 and the engine had to have been casted in 1965?

6015 is the Ford basic casting number for a block.
Basic part number for an engine block is 6010.

I think about the only thing you can do is try to find a casting date on the block and head. It should be at least one month before the build date on your truck. And even that won't prove conclusively that it's original to that truck. Deciphering Ford Parts Date Codes - FORDification.com
ND said in a post a long time ago what year Ford started stamping a partial VIN on the back of the blocks but I can't remember what it was. I know they were doing it by 1971 for sure but not in 65. By 71 they were also stamping it on the transmission.

My 1966 300 has a C6AE-6015-D and a 6B28 date code right next to that. February 28, 1966 (a Monday) - Truck was actually scheduled to be built on March 8, 1966 (a Tuesday) according to the build sheet - just 8 days of lead time. Scheduled off assembly line on March 10th, 1966 according to the invoice.

A little tough to tell from this distance but I'd guess your date code looks like 5L4 - November 4th, 1965. Take a look when you have a chance and let us know.

Don't sound like enough time for the cast iron to age before they machined it.

I could be wrong but welcome to mass production. Only really expensive high-end vehicles such as rolls Royce's and Jaguars and probably Lamborghinis etc age their blocks
