More than likely it's the 223 I-6, but could be the 262 I-6 (somewhat rarer). The intake and exhaust manifolds are on the left (Drivers) side. If on the opposite side, someone has swapped a later model engine.
Get the numbers off the warranty tag for someone on here to decode to find out what the original engine was (and possibly is).
So a 262 is somwwhate rare; give me a listing of vehicle it was in?
Just curious!!!
Never seen one around my house. All 223's in truck's around here.
Being a 63 ; its problably been change to a 300 as Gritsngumbo mention.
I'm aware of the engine series; just wanted to no what 262 's ran in. I've havn't seen one, and assume its alot stronger motor than a 233. Also describe the outside looks for me. I can bascially till the Y block series apart but as mention never seen a 262.
I'm not questioning if the engine was a 300 but "Anythings possible" to fab into a front motor mount frame. so a 240 or 300 could be in it.
I've seen some wacking stuff inside engine bays' before!!!!

You might have seen a 262 because...
The 1961/64 223 and 262 I-6's look exactly the same from the outside. So do: FE engines, 239/256/272/292/312 Y blocks, 221/260/289/302's, 351C/351M/400's, 429/460's...and etc.
