Transmission control switch not working...?

When in drive and cruising, I press the transmission control switch to turn off the O/D and do not get any 'OFF' illumination - what are the usual suspects? TIA

Usually it is a broken wire where the wires enter the shift handle inside the steering column. Take the plastic cover off of the steering column and either fix the wires or replace the handle. A new handle is about $65 at a Ford dealer.

Thanks for the input! I'll look into replacing the shift handle.
