Im getting ready to drag the 5er down to Cape May for a week and had a question for all you guys running a PM and towing heavy.
I also have a set of 155's with 30% nozzels, running a tow tune from Gearhead, what is a safe level to keep my EGT's at. Last time I towed this combo I think the highest I say was around 12-1300, but it wasn't a sustained reading, it normally averages 800 or so. My question is when do I back off, I have 1200* in my mind but wasn't sure what you all see for temps, and not sure if anyone is running larger sticks that could chime in as well.
I pulled my camper through the Smokies with sustained EGT's of 1250-1300 in the mountains with no ill effects, but I didn't like it. Later, I could never keep my EGT's at a decent temperature towing anything with my bigger injectors but that was a turbo/tune thing. As long as you drive with good sense you shouldn't have a problem. Just don't run a race tune and keep good eyes on your EGT gauge.
I just talked with Matt on this tune and he said on the Tow Max tune the fuel amount delivered is the same as the OEM. This has been A question of mine with the EGT probe in the manifold and not 6" after Turbo like most over the road trucks. My Truck with OEM tune will Hit around 1400 but with probe still in the flame what is acceptable. with the probe after turbo and your hitting 1200 degrees your doing damage.

Thanks,
I never run a race tune. Only tune I have run since switching over to Matts were the 8k tow tune or unlimited tow. I have been running the 8k tow for a long time now and I really like it so Im looking foreward to seeing what it will do on a longer trip. I will post my results when I get down there if I can figure out how to use FTE on my IPhone if there is no WIFI

If anyone is going to be near Cape May or Wildwood PM me and we can hook up. I would love to meet some of the peeps on here that I chat with through the key board.
I'm staying at Holly Shores Camp Ground, I will be there sometime Saturday evening/afternoon.

You aren't damaging these trucks at 1200 with the probe in the manifold. If you hit 1400-1500 you might risk damage if you hold it long...
