I just installed my egt gauge pre turbo in the manifold. empty I am around 500 to 900 degrees with a 4 inch turbo back exhaust and a superchips tuner in tow safe mode (80hp and 120 ft lbs). My question is....
when I get on the gas, the temps shoot up to 1100 or so while I am on it hard (not quite nailed). Is this normal for non-towing with my set up? what will happen when I tow and hit a steep grade? Will my truck set to the stock tune lower these temps significantly? After all, I am using the most mild tune that superchips reccomends for towing up to max GCWR. For all of you out there with similar setups is this temp range normal? It seems high for an empty truck with the most mild tune and a 4 inch exhaust (with cat in place).
I see high 1400 and touched 1500 before for a sec under heavy throttle. I tow at no more than 1150, some say it can go more and I don't doubt it but that is my "safe" temp. Just normal take offs and normal driving sometimes I see 1100 during pre boost fueling.
I towed this last weekend to the coast, 3500 lb slide in towing a 5k boat, going up a steep grade (that my '97 lost mph on at full throttle), I maintained speed at 3/4 throttle and after a good mile (long steep grade) I just got it up to 1100 pre turbo. I haven't seen any higher than that. I have the Predator in the middle HP setting.
dont worry unless u go over 1350 for a really long time. semi's run a million miles and routinely run a long time at 1300. 1300 is the "very safe" limit.
