I've forgotten what carb is on Clyde. Any of them could have a piece of debris stick to the needle and flood it, and it really isn't the carb's fault if stuff is getting by the filter. Many of the carbs can hang up if the float or needle aren't put in right. And those that use a power valve can flood when it fails. Lots of possibilities.

As for the master cylinder, it sounds like one of the bores or pistons is bad and letting fluid back into the reservoir under pressure. Time for warranty, as you said.

Those carbs don't have much to go wrong. About all that could do what you described is a hung up float/needle. I don't remember if they had a tricky install on the float like the Autolites, but I don't think so. That really just leaves some grit on the needle causing it to flood.

Since your truck sat for many months it is possible that the ethanol thinned out some varnish left over the years and it coated the needle. Or that it loosened some grit. Let's see what the rebuilder says.

yup, the carb got handed off today, the filter looked pretty spotless. When i parked Clyde many moons ago, i left him with a nearly empty tank, so almost all of the gas he has been using the last few weeks has been fresh Ethanol.

I live in Iowa, Ethanol is everywhere, and i have never had an issue with it... so lets not go ranting down that road. Even he premium fuels have 10% around here.

So, lets see what the rebuilder has for me...

Ethanol actually keeps a fuel system cleaner than gasoline - assuming all the parts are compatible with it. But, in an older system that can be a problem as it can dissolve or at least loosen the many years worth of accumulated varnish that gas can leave.

every hose has been replaced on the truck within the last year, and the fuel pump and filter are new. The tank is less than 5 years old... still looks new on the outside. I figured the trip from my place in northeast Iowa up to Minneapolis and back, getting 8 mpg last december, would have flushed it of any and all deposits already...

I agree - it is FLUSHED. I did the same to/from DE earlier this year. 2700 miles at 13 MPG will clean anything. So, we await the rebuilder's pronouncement.

Put it off. It probably has a "limited lifetime warranty" and if you try to cram too much into your day that'll be a short warranty.

Got the new master today, discovered the issue with the old master was that the top machined surface wasn't even close to square... one spot had 1/16" of a gap against a straightedge.
