First fire :D

so today me and my dad were bored and were like hey lets try to get the old truck to run (1976 ford f100) so we got an old battery, checked to see if lights etc worked, then popped plugs out turned it over by hand did the oil etc, cranked without plugs, then with plugs got it to run off of gas pored into carb but it wasnt getting it from lines so we got the compresor out and blew air down the line and got it cleared up but gas splashed out lol so we almost got it to start with out gas down carb but got blow back and carb fire which spread to hole top of motor fire, so i ran to get water to put it out then we stoped for the night lol. the thing we were suprised about was that there was no blue smoke, no knocking or anything, o ya and it has been sitting for about 12-13 years, so ya i was pretty stoked lol

thought id jest tell you guys

When I try to start an engine that seems to have a fuel supply problem, I use propane. I run propane in my cutting torch, so I set the torch in the carb throat, turn the valve on, and crank the engine. I don't work the throttle, just crank it. If you're getting spark, it will usually fire off in about five seconds. Once it seems to be getting gasoline (the engine will labor a bit from being too rich), I'll start leaning the propane until it's running on gas. While there is still some risk of a fire, it's a lot less than spilled gas, and it's easier and cheaper than starting fluid.
