I recently installed a brake booster in the 74 F100. Here is the funny thing, I got great brakes now and only have to use one foot to stop. The other thing that happened is my off idle stumble is gone. This is a mystery and the only thing I can figure out is that either I had a very slight Vacuum leak or I was pulling to much vacuum and it was causing the stumble. Either way I am in a Win Win situation so all is good... I really like the Power Brakes a lot better.
I just added power brakes to my '77 and am very glad I did. Unfortunately, I fubar'ed something when putting on my new aluminum intake, so I get to do that again, but otherwise I'm very happy with the upgrades to my dent!

Thanks.. Hope you find the problem with the Intake. If its anything like my FE 360 that manifold was a real pain and heavy...
Mine is an Edelbrock Performer 289 aluminum intake.
I threw away the cork end gaskets and used silicone to seal the ends like a lot of folks say to do, but apparently I didn't do it right, because it started pissing oil about 3 miles into my test run. I must've had a light spot in my bead and the oil found it. Either way, I'm using the cork ends now and sealing up with Permatex Indian Head this time. It may take a team of come-alongs to remove the intake next time, but she shouldn't leak any oil!!

I have a couple of Come-Alongs if you need them. Hope you got it all sealed up this time. I had the same thing happening and I thought the Rear Main Seal was bad in my truck but it was leaking from the back of the Manifold. I think I should have used the entire gallon of Sealant the first time... LOL
How difficult was the installation of the brake booster? I pulled one off a 76 from the junkyard for my 74. It doesn't look too difficult, but I am a little unsure of how to route the vacuum hose since my 74 has manual brakes. Any help would be appreciated.

The vacuum line simply goes from the check valve on the booster to the intake manifold. There should be a vacuum tree on the manifold and, seeing that you had manual brakes, the 3/8" branch should have a cap on it that you can just pop off.
One thing though, use a quality hose. Don't use the cheap Chinese crap. It tends to collapse under high vacuum situations and the next time you hit the brakes there's no boost.
I usually use 3/8" fuel injection hose.
The pictures are of my '73 w/ a 360.
I didn't find what I was looking for by searching so I figured I would post up here...
The brake booster in my '74 f250 decided to start leaking vacuum at an alarming rate and causing my truck to not want to idle.. Needless to say I need a new one..
I have one laying around from a '78 parts truck I bought, although it is a different part. I know that it's a different part number, but is there any way to interchange them? I need to get my truck back on the road ASAP.
