first off i will let you know what im driving. it is a 1966 f-100 4x4 352 (278,657) thats orginal miles. anyway yesterday I take off in the old beast to go to the city dump. While im driving the truck starts acting like the brake is on. I got out and climbed under and checked the E-brake and it wasnt stuck on. so i start the truck up again and i can hear a small air leak sound coming from what appears to be the power brake booster.
Now my question am i correct in assuming that the reason my truck is driving like the brakes are on because of a bad power booster? Or do i need to dive deeper. I did take the booster off and pluged the vacum hole and when i depress ether side of the power booster i can hear air moving out the other side. . sorry such a long read. just looking for answers.
Hmm...seems like if you had a vacuum leak from the power booster to the intake manifold, that the brakes would feel mushy and/or loose, not always on or sticking. If you had a leak in a line, then that would allow air in and make them mushy or weak again (i.e. have to pump them up to get pedal) Could you possibly have a stuck brake cylinder? If you have disks on the front, could your pads be sticking?
bo, Is this a new install? Seems that I had to adjust the rod from the booster to the master cylinder to keep it from applying the brakes. Mine would go from rolling along to heat expanding and locking the front wheel.
thanks for the repls. i will try adjusting the arm. but im thinking that the seals are leeking and its vacuming from the draw side. because when i pull the brake pedal back its all good? i dont know thats why i guess these old trucks are so fun sometimes
