I'm replacing the complete stock brake system on my 54 F-100. I have taken thousands of photos during the disassembly but seems I missed one. Since it has been four years since I removed all the brake lines, hoses, etc., I can't remember what secured the front brake hose to the frame rail. Was there a nut and washer to secure it from the inside of the frame rail or a clip like what is used on the rear hose?
There should likely be two front brake lines. They are held with clips on our '55 F500. You're welcome to come look if you'd like. We're in far North Dallas by Preston/Campbell. You should be able to send me a "PM" via this forum, or, I'm listed in Dallas.

A clip? If we are talking about the flex hose that goes from the master cylinder to the frame to connect to the hard line. Mine is a nut. The hose goes through the hole in the frame rail and the nut holds it in place.
Here is a picture I have when I was tearing it apart. I can find my old hose and take a picture of the setup if you like. My frame is now clean but no brake lines are on it.
The hole just above the bumper is where the hose goes through.
Yes, and yes. The front right hard line is clipped to a crossmember and fits to a pass-through/flex line fitting at the frame rail. Then the flex line goes to the wheel cylinder(s). Left side is similar but doesn't get strapped to a cross member.
Thank you all for your help. I seem to remember there being a nut and star washer for each hose. I could have sworn I bagged and tagged every part I removed but can't seem to find the old hoses. The front hoses I got from Mid-Fifty have a horseshoe shaped clip on the threaded end up against the fitting that passes through the frame. Could that be the clip I need? I have looked in every parts catalog I have as well as the shop manual and nothing is really very clear. More than likely I will take the hoses to the hardware store and get nuts and washers to fit it.
It could be the clip is now used. I would be inclined to get the nut and washer from the hardware store.
Funny you should mention digging through your bags of parts. I was doing just the same thing the other day. I'm trying to locate the bracket that the rear brake hose connects to at the hard line....It will reappear just as soon as I replace it.
Typical brake hose installation is the hose goes through the hole in the bracket mounted on the frame, and retained by the horseshoe clip. There should be flat sides to keep it from spinning when installing the hard line to it.
(and yes, the clip does need to go on farther, all the way down)
