I am replacing the front brake hoses and I'm having a question about how to install them properly.
The brake line end of the hose is shaped like a D, which attaches to the frame on a bracket with a D shaped hole in it, and there's also a C-clip, on the outboard side, that keeps the hose from going farther into the D shaped hole. I'm having trouble getting the hose to articulate to the caliper correctly when I attached the other end to the brake line, through that D shaped hole, and secure it with the clip on the other side of the bracket. The clip is a simple U shaped clip. I would have to twist the hose about 180 degrees to get the caliper end to hook up as it should, but it won't allow that much twist.
Am I supposed to remove the C shaped clip from the hose end to allow the hose to rotate so I have the proper alignment at both ends? And is the clip I use in the front different from the clip used to secure the rear brake hose? I think I remember the front brake hose clip was different when I took out the old hoses but I'm not 100% sure. I will get some pictures in case none of this makes sense. Thanks for any help.
No, just the lines and hoses. Calipers are the originals/the ones that have been in there a while.
I lost the banjo bolts somehow so I went to the JY today to get some, and took a photo of a 92-96 4x4 F250's brake hose. Should my hose (passenger side in this photo) look the same as far as the orientation of that bend in the metal of the line? If so, I am not able to do that because of the end of the line that meets the frame, the D-shaped end on it prevents it from rotating properly.
Here's mine now.
I used the clip on the left, as you can kind of see, but also got a hold of these other clips, on the right. The clips that were on the truck might have been the ones on the right, but they were so rusted I had to rip them apart to get the old line out, and it was a while back and I can't be sure.
It seems to twist a lot more than it should. The one in the photo is bent more than it is twisted. I'll try again tomorrow night to see if I can get it bolted in to see how it looks
I did the passenger side of mine; it only fits one way on the caliper and one way on the bracket. Did they give you the correct side? There are 2 different hoses for left and right. ~Bill

I thought that might be it, but I couldn't find anything but one hose for both sides. Both of these items descriptions don't say they're for one side or the other:

Just looked it up . My parts list shows the same hose left and right also ! Maybe just crap parts ? I got some front hoses for a nissan one time that would not fit ! I had to go to another source .
I will take one more look tomorrow night at it and maybe I'll see something new. Something just doesn't look right when I put the hose to the caliper, and it looks like it won't clear the upper ball joint nut when the wheel is turned, so I'm hesitant to bolt it down. It also ends up pretty twisted, at least in my opinion. I just don't want to mess anything up, as I'm in the home stretch to getting this truck back on the road.
I checked an old parts invoice. On my truck, Dorman H36984 is RF, H36983 is LF, H38625 is rear. It's what I ordered and what fit. But I see where the part number you have is also listed. Might be one of those things where it depends on the caliper. Good luck. ~Bill

Those are for 2WD, single piston caliper. My truck is 4WD with dual piston calipers.
