It has been raining for 5 days; still more to come. Flooding in most parts near rivers; but we don't have water in basement...yet. I just finished the flooring in the basement this winter , so my luck would have it flood!
Worked on the truck today; put in a new alternator , got tired of walking home to get my truck to boost the '50. I had to remove the rad, fan, shroud to get the alternator out. Also put in new speedo cable , checked it out and it works, so I hope to get my instrument cluster in soon. I've been messing with resistors to get the range right on my gauges. Hope to have instruments working this month.
Connected cable to speedo; it turns but there is a noise coming from the speedo. Kinda like na intermittent clicking nois; speedo turns. Will investigate more tomorrow, did test run, speedo seems to read high.

I had the same noise when I first installed the new cable. I think it was getting kinked. The noise went away after a few miles.
What's the diameter of your rear tires compared to the originals? Smaller rear tires will make the speedo read fast. You might have to change the number of teeth of the speedo drive gear in the tranny.
The noise may be from the odometer, it is not turning so I will pull the instrument cluster next days off to check it all again. I'll have to research the rim and tire size of the donor compared to what I am running now. think tires are larger than stock.
My speedo was making the same kind of clicking noise. There is a lube hole on the top of the spigot that the cable attaches to on the speedo (at least on 51-52's). I gave that some juice, and it helped, but ultimately the bushings in the speedo were worn out. How many people lube their speedo? When the bushings get sloppy, the drum that spins inside starts hitting the stationary parts, and makes the noise. When it gets real bad the needle will start jumping to 80 mph sporadically. They can be rebuilt, I lucked out and found a brand new speedo for $20 at a swap meet.
Stay dry Tom. We've been lucky so far. All our BC trucks had to re-route thru Edmonchuck. Nothin better than spending a rainy day in the shop workin on the truck.
Looks like your" thunderstorm" was fairly localized . :0)
Rivers are starting to recede, some are still waiting to get back into their homes, the power is still off. Calgary may have to cancel their annual Stampede, which may be a first !
We are lucky, we are on fairly high ground, some affected near the river banks.
Tom,
Since the odometer is not turning with the speedo and you'r'e getting a clicking noise then I'm betting the gear is stripped or the odometer is gunked up.
typically the odometer itself clips into the speedo housing. Each number wheel on the odometer should have a littel dog or tab sticking off of it that fits into a slot to keep the whole thing from turning.
I've seen them get gunked up where one of the number wheels wouldn't rotate and cause what you describe.
