The clamshell is hinged on the left side? I've seen that on Rangers, but not Aeros. I guess I never had my '89's apart

ISTR that the hinged early version only had three screws on the Rangers. In any case, yes, remove the ignition cylinder again, and the top half will just lift off, once the lower's screws are removed. On that version, the screws you removed actually go into the top half from the bottom, and the screw holes in the top half are easily stripped, so be gentle on reassembly.

yup, it's 4 screws, and the panel acts like a "hinged door" - I don't think these screws are that long...

I will send you a photo of it today, and you can see if it's what you are thinking...

Thanks for all your help to this point - almost there!

One thing I did notice, was that ford went from a metal acentuator to a plastic one with a metal pin.... maybe they are both dorman part numbers, but I think that metal gears would last longer, no? - maybe saved ford 1/2 a penny...

alas - I will get those snaps today with wifey's iphone, just for ease of uploading...

BTW Al, looks like you had the same exact van I have, which explains why you are helping me so well (thanks soo much, you have no idea how much it's helping us)

in fact, I love all you guys for all the help over the years... this all started for me being sick of being screwed by mechanics that would lie to my face on what was wrong, etc...

even dealerships - everyone is trying to squeeze every nickle out of a customer these days... even the guy with the $3 car wash up the street :-)
