Ingition Switch Replacement Help
My 93 is suddenly very slopy & have a hard time removing the key at times.
Had the same problem on my '93 SHO but that's been sold. I tried searching for this on this forum but found nothing.
How hard is it to replace? On my 57 Chevy it's a matter of putting in the key & pushing a spring loaded pin through a hole to get it pop out.
Also I have a factory alarm, does this have any effect?
Thanks in advance,
Jon
1. Remove plastic column shroud and steering wheel.
2. Insert key, turn to run position (battery disconnected of course)
3. Locate cylinder release pin, push it in, pull key and cylinder out from switch. (It helps to have the new cylinder handy, place it in relation to old to help locate the release pin hole. I used a long blade, slim screwdriver but a coat hanger would probably work just as well)
4. Insert key in new cylinder, turn to run position, depess release pin, slide new cylinder into switch, turn key off.
5. Re-assemble steering wheel and shroud.
I took my cyl to a locksmith and had it re-keyed to the old key so it would still be compatible with other locks. Cost me around $25 for the re-key job.
