My truck didnt come with any ignition key so I bought the switch and the ignition lock at autozone.Problem is I am following the instructions but I am not able to get the 2 parts to mate.anyone know if there is a trick to this? The guy at autozone wasnt able to do it either.
I recently replaced the switch in my '66 F250, retaining the original key and cylinder. Maybe your setup is similar to mine. Here's the instructions from my on-CD shop manual:
Insert key into cylinder. Turn key to ACC position. Place lock & key in the switch. Depress the pin (use a paper clip in the little hole on the cylinder face) slightly and turn the key counter-clockwise. Push the lock cylinder into the switch. Turn the key to check the lock cylinder operation.
The pin is a little spring-loaded pin which you depress with a small wire, say a paper clip, by pushing on the end of the pin with your wire through the little hole on the face of the cylinder. This makes it possible for you to turn the key past that point so that the inner cylinder parts will line up with appropriate places inside the switch and thus the cylinder-key assembly will go all the way into the switch.
