Overdrive issues
Hey guys, on my 2000 f350 the overdrive light blinks most of the time. Some days it runs pretty good, and other days it runs like complete s#!t. Randomly, the light will stop blinking and the truck runs perfect for however long the light is out. Some days even with the light blinking the truck will go into overdrive and some days it wont. All of the above mentioned happens at complete random, and I cant figure out what the problem is. Hopefully someone can tell me what the hell is going on with this thing. Thanks.

You will need to have the codes read by Ford or a High end scan tool that most shops and auto parts stores will not have. I would stop driving it if thats an option because you might be doing more damage by driving it.

Well when I got the truck the trans fluid level was fine and I was told by someone having similar problems that a transmission shop told them to dump a bottle of trans cleaner in and the problem should work itself out in about 2 weeks. Well long story short its been 6 months and no change. When I hit the overdrive button the truck drops a gear and the RPMs skyrocket, as would be expected. Like I said, everything that happens is completely random and it has me baffled.

So I haven't been able to get the codes read but talked to my uncle who sold me the truck and he said he had the codes read and it was something that has to do with some sort of faulty switch in the transmission? I'm not very knowledgable on transmissions so I don't even know whether to believe that or not.

1. Get the codes read so that we know what needs to be fixed.
2. Start changing parts until you get lucky.
3. Keep driving until the trans fails and replace the whole trans. It won't take long for this to happen if you keep driving it like this.
I think Option 1 is the cheapest way to go.
