Get to your friendly Ford dealership. You MUST have a proper scanner to see what the codes are. Without it, you are simply guessing and throwing parts at a problem.
It means something is up with your trans. Could be as simple as debris on the VSS sensor in the rear diff... could be much worse. Best to have the codes pulled and go from there.
Turned truck off and then back on - now no more light. Do I still have an issue or was it just a fluke? I am leaving for Colorado next Friday and will be pulling a snowmobile trailer - am I safe or not?
Ford would be your best bet. Auto Zone and places like that can't pull the codes from our trucks. Where are you located maybe there is a member near you that can pill them for you.
The closest member that I can think of is about 3.5 hours away from you. Give them a call as Aklim said. They should do it quickly for you. The cost varys from dealership to dealership. When you do it post the codes here.
Ford wants $90 and I have to have the truck to them before 3:30 Monday through Saturday. That just doesn't work for me, I'm still at work at that time. I guess I'll just have to keep driving it until it breaks down, then my boss will have to let me off work to get it fixed because I'm required to have an operational vehicle to perform my work.
Don't sweat it too bad, the fact that the light went out means it was probably something silly. Just keep an eye on it, and if the light comes back on or the truck starts driving really horribly make time to take it to the dealer. $90 though just to scan it??? I'd try to find a new dealer!
