Ok well 2000 EX and my overdrive light starts to flash and the truck dies out. Last week it did the same thing and the engine light came on a code po720 output shaft speed sensor i replaced it but the overdrive light still flashes about once a day but no codes now. Should i start cryin now lol
You need a scan tool that will read codes from the Transmission module. If that light is flashing there are codes set. Snap On, OTC, or the Ford IDS will do it.
mine has been doing the same thing i wound up running a ground wire from battery ground to the p.s. head and have not had a problem since, worth a try.
Innova scaner and i have the 6.8 V-10 so i got to take it to the shop or buy a scanner for the tran ? Thanks for your input
The Innova scan tool will only read generic OBD codes of which none are transmission. You need to find someone with one of the high end or OE scan tools. A real mechanic will have one.

I have one from sears and it was $180, and it reads anything. Any code starting with "P" means powertrain, engine, tranny rear,etc...
I had this problem a few years ago. There were a bunch of suggestions somewhere in this forum....somewhere. There was a lot of big scarey talk like "limp mode of a dying transmission" and torque converter problems.
My stalling and flashing went away when I changed the alternator voltage regulator. I did it for an unrelated issue and the stalling and flashing were gone. Cheap and quick swap out.
