New Steering wheel on the way

I ordered a new factory steering wheel to replace mine, which is starting to get nasty. I know how to change the steering wheel but have never done it on one with an air bag. Is this a dealer only thing? What is the procedure?

Did you get it from the local dealer?
How much?
Mine is pretty nasty too.

I found it from one stop ford in Lansing, MI. It was $310 shipped. $425 at the local dealer.

Still better than a payment....

Wow what a long thread to read! The one positive post from that thread was where one person had a plug-n-play situation using a Navi wheel with all the same controls as their excursion. I would like that!

Even though I did the mod to add the Navigator wheel in my old black Excursion, I did a direct swap with a Blackwood wheel on my '05, which was a plug and play situation. Here's how that was outlined:

Ok so help me with a quick question. My 02 limited Ex has cruise, radio and HVAC on the wheel. I've found an 01-02 navigator wood wheel with all the same wheel functions. Should this plug-n-play between the two?

I would think so.

Does the Nav wood match the wood on the Ex?

I tried this and had a minor issue. When I hit the horn, it wouldn't stop blowing. Once I switched my excursion switches and wiring onto navigator wheel, all was fine. If I recall, one of the navigator switches was also labeled differently than the excursion.

Thanks for the heads up... Kinda rains on the parade of quick and easy but at least it's good to know. My current steering wheel buttons are not good looking, I'd hate to have a nice wheel and ugly buttons...

I might have to give this a try. Did you have any issues with the clock spring?

No issues with clock spring.

Another thing you can do is disassemble the navigator switches themselves. You can then transfer the switch covers if they are in better shape onto your old excursion switches. There are small torx screws holding them together.
