This is getting frustrating. Ordered a turbo though a local diesel shop, came in and it was wrong, no wastegate and 3 bolt exhaust flange, They are now telling me I have an rare truck that is a 1998 F350 and cannot get a turbo upgrade for it. Looked at the beans site and it appears that there early 1999 turbo also has no wastegate and a 3 bolt exhaust flange. My truck is registered as a 1999 but was built in 1998. The turbo in it has a wastegate and the exhaust flange has more than 3 bolts. HELP don't want to get stuck with another restocking fee! Can anyone help me identify the turbo in my truck?
Thanks in advance
looks similar, no data tag place on mine by the garrett logo and garrett is more to the left in bigger letters ? Mine does have the wastegate built into the housing, not bolted on.
^what he said. It sounds like an E99, even if the build date has 98 in it, its still a 1999. Ford was switching over production lines from OBS to super dutys in that time. Time for a new shop...
early 99 then. Ok, so the real question is then, is there a bolt in turbo upgrade available? that will bolt up to my MBRP exhaust flange? and will eliminate the bad turbo pulse I have when pulling my trailer up hills?
What's wrong with your turbo? Have you concider rebuilding it? It sounds like you want to go with a wicked wheel or second generation wheel to get rid of surge?
not sure what is wrong with it, surges bad under load, trailer is heavy (11000lbs) and truck has 300000km on it. Thought upgrading was the best bet, already have exhaust, intake, and DP tuner. just don't want to order a second wrong turbo, will call beans tomorrow, the pic on their website shows the early 99 turbo with no wastegate and a 3 bolt exhaust flange. mine stock one has at least 6 bolts maybe 7 and a wastegate built into the housing
Clay at riffraffdiesel has the whole kit for upgrading from a E99 to a L99. Has great customer service nobody can beat. You said you have a DP tuner, do you have any gages to monitor EGT, tranny temp and boost? Those are highly recommended if not a must when towing.

+1. Call Clay at Riffraff in the morning. He's had a couple E99s and really knows his stuff. He'll get you pointed on the right direction.
