hybrid e99/OBS turbo

since the first time i took an obs turbo out i hated everything about it except the exhaust side flange

well ive been pondering this for a while and tonight i finally got around to trying it

behold a hybrid stock turbo

e99 intake housing and center section
obs exhaust housing and wheel

best of both worlds ... bolts to the uppipe collector and no removing the pedestal with the turbo

i know this isnt for everyone but i had the parts around the shop
so what does everyone think?

I like it Jim! But with the SD intake housing won't you have to change plenums? Unless I guess you're inter-cooled already in which case you could just change the hot side pipe.

E99 spider works on an obs turbo so obs y should work on a e99

Ok, I see now. I didn't realize the SD turbo you used was an e99. That makes sense. The e99 turbo is pretty close to the OBS turbo anyway so I assume the main improvement of this setup would be the ease of removal correct?

Damnit you beat me to it... I've been wanting to try this for a long time now.
Question- what did you do with the EBPV? And did you try just swapping out the center section and pedestal and keep the OBS intake housing?

I knew someone had mentioned it recently so I went ahead and tried
I havent got to mount it to the pedestal or back on the block yet so I wont know about ebpv until later
The obs center section seems to have a slightly diffrent pattern where it bolts to the compressor housing ...I tried the obs housing one the e99 center section and it woukd not bolt up

Main improvment is ease of removal

If only they made our housing with a v-band like the SD. That turbo would be removable in probably 30 minutes. Lol

E99 turbo and collector swap? I'd much rather have the v-band setup also.

On one hand the v-band housing would be nice, but it's also a smaller housing. Would be cool to have the large housing with the v-band.

I know there are/were 1.0 and 1.15 housings out there for L99-03 trucks, not sure if they would play nice on an E99 turbo though.
