EGT sensor

I traded up to a much heavier 9 ton gn trailer this year. Now i am concerned about egt's. Where should the sensor for a gage be placed? Also pondering a couple of gages and will decide their location soon.

I have mine on the manifold, just before it connects with the up pipe, this gives you the combined temp of all cylinders on that side. Option - do two gauges with one on each manifold. A bad cylinder will show colder on one manifold and you'll know right quick if you have an issue and where it's at.

This is where I put mine. (pic from diesel manors site). Gives adequate average temp from both banks, easy to access for drilling and tapping. I thought this would be far more difficult than it was. In fact, it was the easiest part of the gauge install for me.

Hi all, what angle/part of the engine bay was this picture taken from? I'm getting ready to install mine. Also, do I need to worry about metal shavings hitting anything vital? My vacuum hose is far larger then that little hole. I can't imaging it being very effective removing the shavings.?

Thanks, Mike

Camera angle: Put the back of your head on the ground behind the oil filter.

This is where I put mine as well. I didn't worry about the shavings. You're drilling and tapping upside down and it's only the exhaust side of the turbo. Worked fine for me.

Binuya as I understand it it only gives you a average reading for the drivers side bank not an average of both.

Yup... driver's side only. I read a trick where somebody attached a strong magnet to a paper clip and used that to pick up all the drill/tap shavings inside the pipe

If you drill slowley and grease the drill bit it it will catch a good amount of the shavings and the engine ideling will blow out anything the grease dosen't catch.

i put one in each side, just drill slow and most will fall out. the tiny parts should go by the turbo on start up. just drive around the yard before doing a WOT and you should be good.

Drivers side, just before the up-pipe collector. Seems to be a common spot.
