True Dual setup and exhaust size

Hello guys, hoping all is well.

Well currently i have been thinking about changing my exhaust setup on my truck to a true dual exhaust. My group leader at work gave me a set of flowmaster 40 series that he had on his chevelles ss and i took them there 2 1/2 inch inlet and outlet yesterday I was hearing various exhaust setups the inline 6 will never sound like a eight but i do love the sound of a sixer.

My question is will the 2 1/2 change the sound also more importantly the performance? i know the true dual setup will sound different compared to the SI/DO that i have now no worries there

does any one have experiences with running a true dual setup?

I would run 2" or 2.25" duals and flange them to fit the mufflers, 2.5" is more than a 300 in a run-o-the-mill truck needs or wants. That's assuming you're determined to keep the Flowmasters.

I forgot to mention I'm gonna get rid of the headers and run the efi manifolds the headers look way cool but draw way to much heat inside the cab. I'm also sure they flow just like headers just for street use. I've been meaning to do this for a while. I also was going to run 2.25 for the inlet and the outlets be 2.50 I think this setup is gonna be permanent for a long time.

I agree with Baron: 2 1/2" is too big. 2 1/4" inlets and 2" outlets gets my vote. Just my opinion. Not valued too highly by too many....jack

What are you referring to as the in and out? In at the manifolds and out at the tail?

..."the headers look way cool but draw way to much heat inside the cab."...and engine compartment. And that is my #1 excuse for not using headers plus the other problems common with headers...loosening, leaking, breaking, etc.

I mean 2 1/4 from the header to the inlet of the muffler and 2 1/2 at the outlet of the muffler.

I have had a vehicle with header leaks and constant problems. However, in the nearly three years since I installed a new Hedman header, with studs and crimp nuts, I have only had one collector bolt loosen up--no blown gasket to replace, but a wrench and a ratchet and done. It is the 'bulb' collector type, not the flat surface to flat surface with gasket between type.

Now do I notice the heat in the e.compartment. Heat in the cab was never an issue, never even noticeable on any header equipped vehicle. "I love my header."

yeah unfortunately i have the heat coming in the cab i thought it was just but then my girlfriend asked why it was so hot inside the truck lol i chuckled and told her its the because of the header. None the less i love the performance of it i just hope i dont lose none from swapping to efi mani's

They do make insulation that fits the firewall for just such a situation. If the only reason you're contemplating a change is heat in the cab I'd try some insulation before I spent money changing the exhaust.

JC Whitney probably sells a custom fit piece. I bought a roll of mylar faced insulation off eBay. Or LMC Truck.
