What's interesting is that the fuse was blown, so that pump wasn't doing anything. It must not really be needed once the engine is warm, because I didn't think the brakes felt bad, other than for the first thirty seconds after startup.

For anyone considering doing this themselves, I say go for it, very easy using the instructions in that fordtechmakuloco youtube video.
I paid $255 for the Pump, and $10 for the fuse.
I'm just re-quoting this to reinforce how easy this install is for even non-mechanical guys like me. I suspect you could get that part cheaper if you searched around. I paid inflated Canadian prices.

Add me to the list of failing vacuum pumps. Making A LOT of noise now, although I still have brakes. Starts it's chirping right at start up, and doesn't stop until rpms come up. I paid 350 on Amazon for the pump, not due to arrive until Wednesday.

In other news, NHTSA is looking into this issue now.

I have a 2012 XLT and the pump failed this past winter. Ford did replace it under warranty. But, the bad pump had the plastic cover. This makes me ask the question how soon until it fails again. My truck will be out of warranty by then and I will get stuck with the bill

Just got my truck back for vacuum pump replacement. Spent 10 days in the shop because the installation kit was not ordered. Happy to have my truck back.

Two questions though for those who have already received new ones: does the new pump seem much louder? and does your new pump seem to always run? Spoke to the service writer who took excellent care of me and said all is normal, but until the problem with the old pump I never new it ran. Just seems odd. Thanks.

what "installation kit"? I installed my own, and I don't recall needing anything aside form the pump assembly.

Let me check my paper work when I get home. Knowing about the national back order I checked first to make sure they had a pump in stock. They said they did but then told me at day 7 they needed the install kit. I had quite a laundry list of things for them to take care of which is why I think they had my truck so long.

Hey Seventyseven250, Just checked my paper work and here is what I found: part number for vacuum pump assembly(bl3z*2a451*a), fuse(6e5z*14526*ca), and also a 9c490(no description). Invoice states that they replaced vacuum pump and harness. Hope this helps. Who knows, maybe they did not have the pump and were just feeding me some BS.

That would be the pump assembly itself, and the associated 40 AMP fuse inside the battery junction box that likely blew.

Yes, you do need that fuse. I wonder if your dealership was trying to fool you about availability of that "kit"?

I would like to let you know that it is now covered until 240,000 kms or 10 years

Mine is affected as well.
Was told by the dealer that the parts are backordered, with no ETA.
Will see how this one goes ..... it will strongly be influence my decision on ever getting a Ford again.

Yep. My truck has been in the shop for 3 weeks.
You would think that with an issue this common, they would have a few in stock. The part still has not come in! 😡

I called Ford yesterday, and was supposed to hear back from the regional rep within one business day.
Well, it's been 24 hours, nothing yet. We'll see. I hope they will call today.

I replaced mine a few weeks back before reading anything about the recall. It did the morning brake thing to me again yesterday so obviously that didn't fix it (for me). I'll probably contact ford now and see if they can give it a shot.

Mine is starting to fail at 80k miles. It is noisy at start up in the morning and the pedal is stiff.
