Laken,

I haven't heard of any cases yet where anyone has had any success with convincing Ford that they need to upgrade the earlier Ecoboost F-150's to the mechanically driven vacuum pumps (would be major surgery including the replacement of a cylinder head) found on the later models.

I can tell you that the replacement pump in my truck started getting noisy again after about 60,000 km, and fortunately I was able to get them to replace that again under warranty and before my truck was rendered useless. Still, I'm about 15,000 km's away from being out of warranty, and I'm thinking it might be wise to ditch the truck before then. Sad... My second F-150, and generally I love the truck, but this issue has left a really bad taste in my mouth about Ford Motor Company in general. ...Horrible customer service and product support, in my opinion. Might be time to look seriously at another brand.

Does your warranty not cover you for a rental car if your truck is in for warranty repair and Ford can't get the part in a timely fashion? I would suggest you look into that. ...Although I think I did have to pay extra for that coverage in my extended warranty. You may also want to look at the lemon laws locally, as often times if they need to keep your vehicle out of commission for a certain duration of time due to a covered repair, you can perhaps pursue having them replace the vehicle altogether. Probably a long shot, but might be worth looking into and at least threatening that.

Good luck.

Sean

Vacuum pump

Hi Sean,
Thanks for the info. That is exactly what I'm worried about.
For the record I already had Ford replace the truck within the first 2 months of my original purchase due to paint, and body alignment issues. It's doubtful they would do it again. Ford CS called me again today. This time it was the supervisor of my area manager. Same crap....call the dealership. "The dealership told me to call you" I told him. He did say that the dealership could call Ford Warrany dept. to discuss what repair I.e. Same OEM part or the cam driven pump would/could be covered. I left a message with the dealer today to investigate.

If Ford doesn't come around and provide some serious compensation & apologies I can gaurentee I'll be shopping somewhere else next year when it comes time to replace my other vehicle.

There are also plenty of Ecoboosts that haven't had a glitch as well. I've had mine over 3 years and no glitches whatsoever.

Angry I was advised today...

hi all, I purchased my 2011 xtr ecoboost this past May only 54,000kms. I dropped it off at the dealer this morning for brake rotors and pads, which will be replaced.

I was advised late afternoon that the vacuum pump needed to be replaced and was told the part was on backorder from Ford Canada. Truck is still at the dealer and I'm supposed to follow up with the service manager tomorrow morning to go over options. As far as I know, it has not failed completely. In fact, since owning this truck for only 30 days or so, I have not noticed any issues with the brake assist.... the only issue was is the brake shuddering at highway speed whish is attributed to the rotors/pads. Is there a connection here??

from what I read here, I'm not optimistic, since this issue seems to have persisted for quite some time. The problem is, we have a family camping (towing trailer) and fishing trip planned for next week. I do not want this trip to be in jeopardy or our other trip planned in early August if this repair gets delayed...!!

Hoping for the best

AK

It's not like the 5.0 hasn't had any issues of it's own. What about using oil, knocking/ticking and stalling while coasting to a stop?
...and you know what they say about opinions.

Real classy. Coming to a thread where someone's truck is broken looking for help you simply post about how your choice is superior and how you'll never have that issue.

You're a troll. I hope nobody comes along and craps on one of your threads like that.
