i am working on my first f350 it's 02 year with 7.3 diesel we been using napa starters and they just won't last is there a good after market starter you would recomend thanks.
I did not see your original post but it seems to me that starter replacements have been hit & miss for those that have reported. Some guys will swear by a particular brand but others not so much. I have always had a lot better luck out of OEM alternators but I am still on the original starter. Good luck.
Rule of thumb from what i've read is that OEM is the way to go for starters. And get the 2 bolt if possible, it's stronger and faster than the 3 bolt. Neither are direct drive, but the two bolt is geared lower.
I was in a bind last month with my camper in the air at the campground when mine went out (actually one of the long casing bolts broke and caused problems). I got the 2 bolt from oreilly with the lifetime warranty. Guess i'll see how it lasts. May go used OEM from car-parts.com next time if I have to (although a free replacement is hard to argue).
I paid way too much for an OEM starter (failed on the road - had to buy at a dealer) but it sounds and works great - very happy with it. I put 5 NAPA starters in one vehicle in 2.5 years. 'Nuff said there.
