Mark, your starter is weak or the starter drive is gummed up. A rebuild or replacement is in order. The starter on the 352 is held with three 5/16 X 1" cap screws. The upper one is hard to reach. I've had sucess using a long extension ( I have an 18"er that works great ) . Good luck and keep her running. Steve

I Replaced The Starter On The 65.i Found The Top Bolt But It Was Missing .looks Like The Last Man Did Not Put It In .can't Say I Blame As It Would Be Hard To Get To.anyway The Old Truck Is Fine Now.i Just Hauled 2 And Ahalf Tons Of Lime And Fertilizer .hardly Knew It Was On There.i Just Wish Gasoline Was Cheapers So I Could Drive It More Often.thanks For The Starter Advice.

Leaving that top bolt out is a mechanics trick from way back. Those starters are plenty secure with the two other bolts. I have never seen any harm come from that trick. I used to help out a VW mechanic when I was a kid and he would leave one of the engine mounting bolts out of every aircooled engine install. There are only 4 bolts. Never once a problem. I am not suggesting leaving out bolts is good mechanic work or any kind of good general practice. Its just that there are a few shortcuts out there that are fine, and in ways improvements.
