Oh and they used Ranger all the way up to 79 as a trim code I do believe, my 75 highboy is a ranger. But dont go by the looks of my truck to tell a 75, I have hacked it up to my liking.
Also, how do I adjust the shift indicator? It's one gear off to the right from where it should be, and I can't even put it in 1st because it hits the shield over the glass
Is there a short drive shaft between the transmission and transfer case or does the transfer case bolt directly to the transmission ?
From what I can see (which isnt much) it doesnt look like there is.
The truck is nearly 40 years old so theres no telling what all has been done to it but it doesnt appear to be a highboy to me from what I can see in the pics. Thats not a bad thing. If its a lowboy then its a newer truck than a 75.
Does it have shoulder belt seat belts? Even the windshield trim is a newer style than 75

Not to nitpick the issue but lurch460 is right, your truck's not a highboy, it's a 77.5-79 lowboy with a 4" lift, this is information you'll need to know when ordering/buying parts.

It's got shoulders added, but the original bolts for the lap belts are there. The window trim being different explains the caulk on it, it's been caulked all the way around due to sealing issues I'd say.
yeah those are 78 badges on the cowl. 75 was on the fender and it would just be "F250" in about three inch block letters.
Not really sure what you have there, Tyler, take some more pictures of underneath. We will figure it out.
I just dont see the front spring mount/ crossmember, that stands out real easily on highboys. That is what keeps me going back to a newer frame.
Yeah I see what you're saying, I'm gonna go check it tomorrow morning. I figure y'all know more than me about it. If its not I'm still calling it one lol cause it sits like it and the VIN says that's what it was. The frame had to be notched to fit the big block and on a later frame should it not be a direct replacement as it was an option? And there seems to be mounting holes for where the steering box used to be, or should have been but I'm not sure. Isn't it possible they replaced the axle with the newer one with disks? I think I remember D44 stamped on it somewhere. And couldn't they have replaced the T-case with the engine? If it came from a different truck that is. As I said I appreciate the input, I'll go check it out tomorrow. What I really need to know for parts is what the motor came from, the decal on the valve cover is partially gone so idk if that said or not.
Frame has been swapped I guess. It's too wide and the T-case is married. The cab is the original though because the VINs match the highboy code and the filler neck hole has a patch panel visible from the inside.
More than likely the frames been notched because they used the car exhaust manifolds they got the motor from instead of using truck manifolds. Frame wouldnt have needed to be cut if they used the truck manifolds.
The 460 was not an option for any 4x4 until 1983
Just a thought, Im not sure where you live or where the truck came from but its possible someone swapped the cab onto a newer frame simply to be exempt from any smog tests or inspection requirements. If they could get it registered as a 75 it could be old enough to be exempt. 75's didnt have shoulder belts though so Im not sure

It's notched up front for the alternator. I want to box that in and clean it up when I paint the frame
