Powerstroke Stalls While Driving

I was driving through town yesterday in dads 2001 7.3 F-350 doing around 45 with no traffic, when all of a sudden the motor just shut off. Its done this before but it is cured by simply letting off the gas pedal and it comes back to life like nothing happened. Only this time it didn't. I had to feather the pedal several times and it cured itself like always. Dad got in it tonight and backed-up out of the driveway and as soon as he shifted gears from reverse to 1 and let out of the clutch it did it again, and the service engine light came on , but went off once he feathered the pedal like I did. only he went about 15 feet before it did it again, minus the check engine light. Any ideas on why its acting up on us would be greatly appreciated.

Sure seems like there has been a lot of IPR failures lately..

So anyway, you may have guess where I am going with this. IPR failure. But dont start with that.

Has your CPS ever been changed? They can fail.

How is your oil level? Check and top off if nessicary.

Do you have an advanced scan tool? If so, check ICP and IPR.

Unplug the ICP and see if it runs better. If so, the ICP is bad. If it runs worse with the ICP sensor unplugged, the ICP sensor is working perfectly.

Then, I would start looking at replacing or rebuilding the IPR.

I'm forced to be contrary to my esteemed colleague. The engine typically runs louder with the ICP unplugged, but I dare say smoother.

It seems that I will have to try unplugging the ICP because the oil is full and the cps was changed about 4 months ago with the one from international.
I just did a scan and got nothing but ERROR on the reader and the check engine light says on now.
Can someone tell me where the ICP is? I'm not very familiar with it.

Perhaps mine is special. But it definitely idles worse without the ICP. I hav a black CPS so it idles like a Prius.

ICP is on the drivers side of the block at the front of the engine valley just below the valve cover. Try doing a search by putting in "sensor locations". You should get a picture where all the sensors are.

I found it and noticed it had oil where the plug went and we went ahead and replaced the ICP sensor and fuel filter with one from oreillys and it hasn't messed up like it did but it will still do it but nowhere near as bad.

You really need to have the codes read, otherwise we are just shooting in the dark.

So it still stalls while driving? As mentioned, getting the codes read would be helpful. If you'd prefer to just throw money and time at it, do any dash lights flash or stay on when it stalls? Does it always start right back up?

I'd check the wiring to the ICP and IPR for any chaffing or brittle insulation. Check the wiring below and behind the 42 pin connector for the same. I'd also change out the CPS again to see if that make any difference.

Is your name really Ledbetter? I think the only time I've ever heard that name has been in the stories about Marcel. I realize that most, if not all, have no idea what I'm talking about now so feel free to ignore this.

I agree codes must be read, but my gut is saying pedal assembly.

Yes, F350-6 that is the real deal. It did it to me again today and out of curiosity I didn't take my foot off the gas, just kept it where it was and pushed in the clutch. It went down to idle and stayed there. I'm really beginning to think its the pedal position sensor.
