95 Speedo died...

Sorry if this issue has been touched upon before i could not find anything in the search tool. I have a 95 I6 with a 5spd and the speedometer and odometer died (odometer doesn't display anything) one day after i went to turn it on and i had my dad check the PSOM board and from his best judgment he said the board is dead. The needle was bouncing alot around 30-40 and then 60-70mph but i thought nothing of it at the time. So I got a new cluster off of eBay (with tach) and plugged it in but the speedo and Odometer still don't work and my fuse isn't blown. I have not checked the connector for power because i am not sure which pins to check does anyone have any ideas? Atleast i have a tach now so i can judge better how fast I'm going lol.

Would that cause the odometer even to not display anything? If so how do you check it?

That sounds like the PSOM went out or one of the connectors on the back of the cluster is loose or has a bad connection.

There are two fuses for the PSOM, Fuse 8 is always hot, Fuse 18 is hot with the key in the Run position. Use a meter to verify you have voltage at Pin 1 with reference to Pin 2. This the voltage from Fuse 8. Then check for voltage at Pin 3 with reference to Pin 2. This from Fuse 18 with the key in the Run position.

1st question: Does your dome light work? If not and the bulbs good, check that fuse and make sure the dome light is not shorting out.

2nd question: What year cluster did you install? The PSOM's are the same from 92 to 96/97 but the clusters are wired diffrent and you can have a charging issue or some indicator lights may not be correct.

You can swap the your original PSOM into the tach cluster if it is functional. That way you keep your mileage and speedo ratios for you truck. Other wise your milage and speed could be off till you reprogram the PSOM ratio setting.

It was an early 95 cluster which is what my truck is. I made sure there was no wiring issue. I'll have to put a bulb in BC I currently have no bulb what is the bulb size?
