Safe Transmission Temperature

Alright guys summer is approaching, and gauges are now in. What are safe transmission temperatures on the automatic?

Now before this goes spinning into a lot of different directions on coolers and other parts, all im looking for is whats safe. Not what you get with the 6.0 cooler, what you tow, ect. Not trying to be harsh about the question, but different states, different elevations, so many factors come into play with this stuff. Just basically safe, and what not to go over.

220 is upper safe limit in my opinion as well. The design temp is 170. Anything below 210 you're in great shape. Above that, it's worth noting. I may let it get up to 250 before I decide to pull over, depending on road conditions. I wouldn't go prolonged over 230.

Just my .02, but I'm not a trans guy.

Just getting a little input together. Hell it is Texas im in, so just checking it out before I NEED to know. Most I see right now is 190, but that was hilly with the wind against me, about 70 mph, and towing about 7k lbs. So just looking to what I shouldnt go over. Thanks guys.

The maximum continuous temperature is 220°F. The maximum short term, i.e., no more than a half hour at a time, is 250°F.

Hey, I was pretty close to what the expert recommends lol. A little high for my continuous max temp though.
