looking at swapping out the t-case in my truck, bought it from Jeff's Bronco Graveyard years ago as a rebuilt unit and it has never quite been right, all kinds of growling/grinding noises if I'm not on the throttle or full off the throttle.
Anyway, a friend of mine is selling off his parts to a project he decided to not complete. He has a NP205 that he went through/rebuilt and added a twin stick setup to. He wants $300 plus my t-case, sound like a good deal?
Price seems a little steep for these parts. I can buy used NP205s all day for $100 and a rebuild kit is less then that. Twin stick shifters are only about $120 so you'd be giving away your old case.
I'd open yours first to see what the issue is. There is no high tech secrets on assembling a 205. Very simple. If I remember right there is only one place to shim and its the center idler shaft. And the target clearance is like .020" or so. Not much too em.
At least pop the pto cover off and look inside. If there is any gear damage the buy your buddies. Like Garth says bearing and seal kits are really affordable.
It's not an automatic.
The problem with the noise is that when I first put the case in the truck was sitting alot and I was away at school. Basically I bought it, and then it sat for some time. Finally got it swapped in and the left for about 6 months, came home got the truck ready to roll a few months after that. I believe JBG only had a 60 or 90 day warranty so that was no help
I plan to pull it out and take a look inside at least, decide if its an easy fix or something I've got the time to tackle and go from there.
