Quick question---I'm looking at a 1993 Bronco XLT, 5.8, auto. It has had the original ECM removed and is long gone. It has 3 ECM's on the front seat (junk yards) and none of them work. (cranks, won't start). I called my guy at the local Ford dealership and he gave me the original part # and engeneering #.
I guess my question would be, "is this thing worth getting?" Price is right, and I really don't think that the original problem (blowing gray/black smoke from exhaust) was due to the ECM.
Some schmuck shop had it and got nowhere and just took this ladies money!
It looke like it has been maintained pretty good and body is very decent.
I'm kinda figuring if it something horrible wrong with the engine, I can part it out and make my $ back!!
Amy thoughts???
Well it depends on how much it is now. Honestly, if I had the money and time, I would purchase any Bronco 1K and under with pretty much any issue if the bodywork and interior were in decent shape, then fix them up and either have a second or sell them. If you can get the Bronco running and its in decent or good cosmetic shape, you could probably sell it pretty easily for 2.5-3.5K.
I've been wanting to buy another Bronco pretty bad for cheap and fix it up, I just don't have extra money for that.
If the Bronco does just have electrical issues and you are fairly competent with working on it, it shouldn't really be all too tough to fix or expensive, just tedious. Like I said, I don't know the price, but it sounds like you are getting it pretty cheap, so I would go ahead and get it if you have the time to work on it. I've never delt with the ECM, but from what I remember, I think I looked up the price new from O'Reillys and stuff for giggles and they are around the $300 range. Not cheap, but like I said if that's the only issue its not bad at all.
I looked underneath and saw no leaks anywhere, (surprising!) Didn't have a chance to look at the drivetrain, (thanks T.S. Isaac!) It was running till the point she took it to the schmuck shop. Seats are leather but a little roached out. Body is real nice and miles are 112K. New fuel pump and maintained, (have records.)
already found some ECMs online. She's asking $1250 but may negotiate. Even has a bunch of parts in the back, new in box!
I guess I'll go to the bank tomorrow..........
Yeah, for me, I would get that for sure. Worst comes to worst and its a whole bunch more than just the ECM, since the body is in good shape and the interior is pretty good, you could get a lot more for parts. May take a while to sell them all but you could do it.
Funny how things happen!! I didn't get the Bronco back in July, wound up ALMOST getting an Excursion that wrestled with a Miata. Come to find out, the Excursion had frame damage, so no Excursion! The lady with the Bronco called me last night and said she needs money....give me $600 and its yours!! So NOW it's in the driveway!! Ordering the ECM Monday!
I def wouldnt have picked it up or any other truck for 1250 that didnt run. But for 600you you camt beat it.
Im looking at a 77 f350 390 4 spd 2wd the lady is willing to sell me for $500. Tempting ....even if i. scrap the truck the 390 would be sweet in my coupe
