Exclamation Injector questions.....

1997 F350 7.3 valve cover has CA ID tag
Door says federal standards (verified the PCM is a 1996 Non CA) so AA is what it should have

I have 7 (AA) injectors and 1 (AB) injectors

Never really ran right since I got it seemed to have miss and has gotten worse.

decided to dig in I thought orings or UVH.

passed a buzz test

but when I pull all of the injector plugs except the AB injector it really has a miss (I mean obvious)

when I pull the AB injector plug no change at all? (1 wrong injector?)

Based on my research If it is a CA truck should have AB which are split shot if it is the federal truck such as the door tag says it should have AA injectors which are single shot.

I am thinking I have 1 incorrect injector what do you guys think?

Thanks,

You should find out for sure what pcm is in the truck too. Different pcm for cali trucks.

If you swap it fast, as in having one oiled and ready as you pull the other one out, you can do it. I'd clean it out to be sure.

So is there a correct procedure to be followed in changing just
one injector ?

Yes there is @ https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-injector.html

So long story short:

1.disconnect all of the UCV's
2.remove old Inj.
3.install new ing w/it being oiled
4.remove the GP
5.crank for a min or so
6.install GP
7.crank a few seconds
8.reconnect the UVC's
9.fire in the hole

Everybody somewhat agree with this for replacement of 1 injector?

Thanks,

Someone could have just replaced the solenoid on that injector, they are all the same and will interchange. But... if you unplug it and it doesn't change the way the truck runs then something is obviously wrong with that injector.
If you want you could swap the AB to a different hole and see if anything changes, that will tell you if its in the wiring or if its the injector itself.

Thought the same thing, so I actually already changed the UVC on that side and no change.

Might try swapping the injector that would confirm injector/harness and might rule out bad cylinder

Just wanted to update:

Pulled the mismatch injector here is what I found.

I then put in the new AA injector and man it runs a lot better but still a hick up around the 2200 rpm range. So I think the other o-rings are in similar condition.

So new orings in route for the rest of the injectors as well as a wicked wheel, TS chip, cold air

Glad you found the problem. But the wicked wheel is just a stock replacement for the obs trucks. It only benefits the super duty.

So I went and replaced the O Rings on all of the other injectors and found some gel like stuff in the injector cups. Normal or is it the diesel gelling from when truck was sitting for period of time prior to me getting it? I plan on running some bio additive I found at Napa to try to clean it up.
