Hey guys. Im knee deep trying to remove my water pump. I got a loaner tool from the local auto parts store to remove the nut on the fan. Only problem is, the nut is tighter than my fan belt (i.e. it slips before the nut loosens). Iv tried whackin it with a hammer, iv tried wrapping a ratchet strap around the pulley, nothing works. Any ideas?
As in turning it like im tightening a normal bolt? Yes. If your looking at the engine, I turn to the right. The fan says right hand threads though, not left

Finally got it off there! To anyone reading this thread in the future:
You need a special tool you can get (and usually rent) from any auto parts store. It will include a handful of what looks like very large wrenches and some that look like the wrench end is a square (imagine the grapple on the stuffed toy games at WalMart). Once you get the tool, youll know what Im talkin about...
You need to use them BOTH. The wrench goes on the threads, the square one on the 10mm bolts holding the water pump pulley on. The square one needs a 1/2" ratchet or breaker bar. I used a breaker bar AND cheater pipe and it still took all I had to get it to move and Im a pretty built guy.
If you have a buddy, utilize him!!! Put a cheater on both wrenches and pull like heck! I was alone so I use a ratchet strap tied to one wrench and me pulling on the other. Use your imagination! It worked!
Once you start to remove your water pump, KEEP TRACK OF YOUR BOLTS. Theyre different lengths. I left them in the holes when I removed the pump and tried not to tilt it. If you have any questions about removing your water pump while its still fresh in my head, ask away!
Make sure when re-installing the fan to wrench it down tight. There have been a few on here who did not tighten it enough and when shutting the engine OFF the fan spun off the threads and went through the radiator.
