I have owned my truck since it came of the line. Sense that time it has been my goal to find as much power to add to it as possible. As you can tell I own a 2000 ford ranger XLT. It is a regular cab, with 4.0 engine size. Transmission is still factory same for the rearend. But as far as after market items..... k@n conical filter. threw out the filter box. 66mm throttle body, bosach platinum 4 spark plugs. And 2 chambered flow master exhaust. just yesterday I installed a diablo switch chip. NOW WHAT ELSE CAN I DO... HELP ME PLEASE ... any bolt ons available?
I sure like my diablo delta chip, a very worth while mod.
Your at the point I am with my ranger.
I think that headers would the best next mod and an exhaust to match.
On the 4.0l changing to a electric fan may only give 1-2 hp, not enough to be noticable, IMO not really cost efective for the average joe, not to say that it doesn't help.
BBk has a bolt on blower for older (stock) 4.0s, it may work on the 00 rangers, but that's something that you'd have to email bbk on. I think it was something like 60 hp or something.
Would make a nice compliment to your diablo chip as well.
Thanks to all those who gave me advice on the horsepower. I have since ordered headers and mass air flow. However, I still have some remaining questions, all those who have advice, it would be greatly appreciated!!
1) Is the after market mass air flow different from my factory air flow?
2) I recently purchased a super chip from Diablo Sport, how do I know if it is working correctly? I installed it myself.
3) The headers and mass air flow is on its way, can I install them myself, or do I need to take my truck to a dealership, and let them do it?
4) I currently have 2 chamber dual exhaust flowmasters installed on my truck, do I need different ones to coincide with the headers that I have ordered?
the Mass Airflow sensor is quite easy to install. I belive its 2 screws and thats it. The headers will be a bit more tricky. It all depends on your skill level with auto mechanics. I personally have not replaced the headers on my ranger so I'm not positive just how tuff it is.
i have been looking for a site or a place that provides a under drive pulley. but there year modles do not macth my year modle. do you know where i can find one, or possibly what year will work?
How are those Platinum bosch 4 plugs? I have the 2 points Bosch platinums in the 4.0L explorer...
Another thing... How's the 66mm throttle body? any diff. compared to the 65mm factory? Was thinking of getting it but the diff. is only 1 mm
under drive pulleys were made at one time but only show 2-3 hp gains and they hav problems on the coming apart and going in to your radiator! due to the fact the the pully ant the C.P.S. are toghter no one make anything.
as for the Electric fan. yeah you do only gain but a few horse but when you are looking you take all you can get and you really only get 10 at most with a K&N or cat back so price wise it is not too bad.
BBK will be no help on a install on a 00 and the kit is made for a return stly fuel system you have a return less, but it will work just take a few mods. I have a write up if you want.
a new MAS will me more accarate and provide a larger area for the air to flow,, so more air and a true reading, best to go Pro-M they flow test each one and give you a flow sheet.
header no too bad to do but nothing made for the 98-00 years you can make a 94-97 set fit but again it will take work to get it to bolt to the cat.
your muffler will be fine, I am guessing that you did not reuse the factory piping
the BBK 66mm is a lot larger than the fctory 58mm I do not know where you got the idea of 65mm there used to be a 63mm on the market but not anymore.
the +plus 4's are a waste just use a good plug no gain to be found in the igntion other than a good set of wires and again maybe at best 2-3hp just like with the fan only if you are really looking
Originally posted by TOBOY For the MAF sensor, ... you need tamperproof torx driver bits to install.. if you naven't done that mod already.
You are right about needing those bits for the security torx head bolts.
I personally would throw out the torx head bolts after I removed them and replace them with similar-sized phillips head bolts along with small lock washers. I have done this to both of my Fords and it makes it so much easier to access the MAF whenever I need to. No fumbling around looking for the security torx head bit.....I just pull out a screwdriver from my tool box.
