  1. Gauges a) EGT/pyrometer - how many are required? b) Transmission Temp c) Fuel Pressure d) Boost - to what PSI should it read as I see everything from 0-20 to 0-60 which I assume is for heavily modded mills?
  2. Chip/tuner - I like the idea of the AutoE unit as a diagnostic tool and I want to know what's what. Also, I only want to get the best out of the stock motor (up to 300 hp as I understand things) without triggering lots of other mods to accomodate huge amounts of hp/torque as I don't need either (I don't think).
  3. Open Element Air Intake System - appears the AIS is highly regarded in these circles
  4. Replace Sensors - ICP, IPR, EBP ... any others? My plan is to get a reading off of the currently installed ones first, then clean/replace as I go when needed.
  5. Hutch/Harpoon mod with Fuel Rail Crossover (RiffRaff)
  6. Bypass Oil Filter
  7. Transmission Cooler - Appears the BTS 6.0 unit comes highly recommended
  8. ELC Coolant replacing the OEM green fluid
  9. Future - upgrade to a 4" exhaust as required (not looking for more noise ... just flow). FYI - our bi-annual provincial emissions test for this truck consists of the technician watching the exhaust tailpipe for 5 straight minutes to ensure there is no instance of 5 continuous seconds of smoke during the 5 minute period.
Does it look like I have things right? Anything I've miss or got wrong?

~ Bugjr ~

1a - 1 is fine. 1b - I'd do 0-40
4 - If the ICP sensor isn't wet with oil, I wouldn't replace it. I would carry a spare CPS, for sure, but don't think proactively replacing sensors is worth the cost.

My $.02, offered for free, and worth every penny.

AE is not a chip/tuner, it is a diagnostic tool, there are no performance gains directly from it. You need to decide on a chip. The 2 most prominent here are DPTuner and PHP with their Hydra set up.

Infinity is so new that speaking for myself, I sometimes over look it (old-think)... but this is changing in my mind. I think it's growing so powerful, that it will have a strong presence in the future upgrade market. It takes the place of a tuner, but even without that function, it is a viable gauge/scan tool alternative. I am on the fence right now because I already have so much invested into what I've already done... but that's not to say I wouldn't liquidate gauges and AE in the future to get the Infinity to serve those purposes, plus use it as a TS switcher. I wish its power was incorporated into my double-din head unit to avoid adding yet more custom-dash installation.

That being said, I'm still planning to get a Hydra because of my needs with a moderately-modified Stinky. I don't yet know how the Infinity could tie in with this, other than just gauges/scan tool... but that's still very valuable.

To tell you the truth, I am intrigued but a little intimidated by the Infinity at this point. It is very powerful tool and tuner, no doubt and between the AE with full domestic bundle and my DP F5 with 9 tunes, I am over the initial purchase price of the Infinity by a bunch. There are advantages to AE, because you can use it on other vehicles but the data sampling rate is very slow compared to Infinity.

Thanks for your input r-kid. My thinking on having the gauges put in early on is, as Tugly alluded to in one of his responses, to get a "baseline reading" on what is going on right now before any mods are made. I was thinking that way I'll have a better sense of the "before and after" of any mods I make. ~ Bugjr ~

Good advice. i didn't mean to say I'd automatically swap out sensors ... only where needed after cleaning & inspecting them etc.

Also, thanks for the suggestion on boost range ... this helps. ~ bugjr ~

HKusp: I am not over the initial price because I haven't bought AE yet, so I am very intrigued by Infinity also and would like to know what you and others think about buying Infinity for its scanning ability irrespective of its tuning function.

[OT: Last month my wife and I watched The Seekers (clearly Wayne's best performance); Stagecoach (our second favorite); and the Man Who Shot Liberty Valence. All highly recommended for a good dose of Americana.]
