Ok guys I have a 96 f250 cc 222,000 miles 3dp 4 exhaust no kitty 6637 rebuilt tranny banks trans command egt and boost gauges 4:10 gears 4x4. I am looking for some fixes I should check on and maybe some cheaper mods to do. Truck runs great just seems at times when I put my foot in it it dogs a bit other times hauls some **** other then that runs great. I do very little heavy hauling most of my miles are freeway but I do like to be able to haul when I need to.
If there are any guys around Rochester Wa. willing to give a hand I have the beer and pizza and a few bucks if needed. I don't mind driving an hour or so for some good insight.
Thanks in advance
Jim

Reason: miles
Where is Rochester? I'm about an hour from Spokane.
You have a good head start on the mods, have you checked the valve cover gasket wiring at all? Clean oil and plenty of it? Clean fuel filter? If all that stuff is good I'd say get a custom tuned chip from one of the big boys (Total Diesel Performance, DP Tuner, Beans, Swamps, Power Hungry Performance, etc) as the next step.
So, i did get a 203* stat from Napa because mine is a 95. That link said everything after 96 went to 195* but the one i got wont work in the 96+ trucks.
another ? when I bought the truck it came with a hypertech tuner after the new tranny it no longer worked and I was told that the unit was to old so they told me if I sent it in they would give me a $200 trade in would that be worth it. I do have a tight budget but do not want to through money away either. No plans to upgrade injectors if that matters.
Especially when you compare it to different engines.
"oh the cummins runs a 190"
Well this isn't a cummins.
End of story.
Diesels run on temperature.
If you notice running the truck cold, they just don't have the pep they do while warm.
Now, it's hard to believe an 8 degree difference is a big deal, but I'm sure it is in some form or fashion.
IH designed the motor with a 203 thermostat. Ford Changed it to 195 or whatever.
Now, there must be a reason they put a 203 in it to begin with?
My thought on the lower T-stat settings is to help ignorant drivers who will pull a trailer and just mash the pedal going up a huge hill. Try to keep engine temps down to better the longevity.
Thats my thought on that. But I don't know jack diddly bout it.
I just know that heat makes better combustion.
And, I know TJbeggs runs one, and well,
Nuff said.
Unless your running big oil, I don't see a problem with a 203 thermostat.
but I wouldn't change your current one unless its no good.

Don't follow the crowd, read up and educate yourself.
Mine was bad, dont know what the temp rating was,the one from ford was 192 deg. Oreiley and auto zone were both 205 deg and about 12 dollars and ford about 42 dollars, guess which one i bought, might have helped the mpg a little and seems like it might be running better, just my thoughts.
