Remote start

I've been able to test mine from 900 feet away line of sight and it started. From my office I'm about 5 to 600 feet from the truck and inside a building, it worked on one of my tests though I don't feel comfortable with it running where I can't physically see it!
On the 2014 with the touchscreen the seats *won't* light up when the truck starts, but the truck will start even if the parking brake is *not* set, which I think is contrary to what I read in the owner's guide.

My '12 has the Lariat Ultimate package with the remote start. My problem is the remote start works good but the hvac system and the seats don't come on. It just starts and that's it.
I searched the manual and couldn't find a solution. Is there something Im missing, something that needs to be activated or turned on?

Remote start and EMTC (Electronic Manual Temperature Control)...
When the remote start feature is used, the climate control system automatically sets certain parameters in an attempt to achieve a comfortable cabin temperature. These parameters are set based on outside air temperature. During remote start, the outside air temperature is continually evaluated and HVAC system behavior can change if the outside air changes between cold, moderate and warm temperatures.
For cold ambient air temperatures (below 0°C (32°F)):
-the airflow mode is set to FLOOR/DEFROST.
-the temperature is set to full HOT.
-the blower speed is set to HIGH.
-the air inlet mode is set to fresh air.
-the auxiliary electric heater is enabled if needed (diesel engines only) (if equipped).
For moderate ambient air temperatures (between 0°C (32°F) and 27°C (80°F)):
-the airflow mode is set to the last user setting.
-the temperature is set to the last user setting.
-the blower speed is set to the last user setting.
-the air inlet mode is set to the last user setting.
-the auxiliary electric heater is enabled if needed (diesel engines only) (if equipped).
For warm ambient air temperatures (above 27°C (80°F)):
-the airflow mode is set to MAX A/C.
-the temperature is set to full COOL.
-the blower speed is set to HIGH.
-the air inlet mode is set to RECIRC.
-the auxiliary electric heater is not enabled (diesel engines only) (if equipped).
Are the seats Heaters activated in the "below freezing" temperature?.
OR Anytime automatically.
The following applies to vehicles with either EMTC (Electronic Manual Temperature Control) or DATC (Dual Automatic Temperature Control).
Climate Controlled Seats (If Equipped) - When the vehicle is started using the remote start feature, the driver/passenger climate controlled seat activates in full heat mode when the outside temperature is less than 0° C (32° F) and full cool mode when outside temperature is greater than 27° C (80° F).
Heated Mirrors (If Equipped) - When the vehicle is started using the remote start feature and the outside temperature is less than 0° C (32° F), the heated mirrors will be activated.
Rear Window Defrost (If Equipped) - When the vehicle is started using the remote start feature and the outside temperature is less than 0° C (32° F), the rear window defrost will be activated.

I can't take credit for it. It was posted years ago and the question had been asked so many times over and over that I figured it'd be worth keeping handy.
This is correct, it won't blow cold air.

I have a '13 F250 Lariat, honestly, the remote start sucks. Not sure if it's line of sight but seems to be. Can't get it to start if there's a vehicle beside mine but if it's by itself no problem. As for climate, it says in my manual it only will set itself to 72 degrees from the defroster. It will not start the heated seats, rear defroster or heated mirrors even if this was the condition the controls were in when I shut it off. Seems to be the only thing I can regulate is how long it will stay on. I can go from the standard 10 min up to 20 by utilizing some magic spell of nonsense. I plan on getting the smartphone app transponder installed at my 6 mo service.
For comparison, I had a guy install a remote starter in my old truck a few years ago. There was no place from within the building of my place of work where the truck wouldn't start. Don't know what distances here but everyone else was scampering to the 3rd floor to find the windows that overlooked the lot to use there remote starters. It was quite a distance though, the parking lot was a bit away from the building.
