Got in my 2011 F350 with 113,000 miles to go to work and it would not start. Had it towed to the dealer and now I'm being told its gonna cost me....13000, yes that's dollars. HOLY CRAP!!! I don't have that kind of expandable cash. The dealer pulled a P2291 Injection Pressure Too Low code. They're telling me I need a complete fuel system, that includes EVERYTHING! This is my first new truck and from everything I've read it was suppose to be a step ahead of the 2 previous problem prone engines. Does anyone have any news, hopefully good for me or am I fubared?
Was it running normally when you last shut it down?
Did you drain the DFCM before they took it to inspect the fuel?
Strange it would fail during a shutdown but I suppose anything is possible.
Did they tell you what component failed, such as the HPFP (high pressure fuel pump)?
Bits of metal should be in the DFCM bowl that they could show you.
Most likely that's the component that did fail if they want it all replaced.
When the HPFP fails it send bits of metal throughout the fuel system so that's why everything related to fuel supply has to be replaced/cleaned.
$13,000 is the highest price I've heard, $11,000 being about average.
While fuel is obviously important for the engine, the engine has been fairly reliable.
The HPFP has been questioned over the years though.
You will get a lot of opinions on the subject of the HPFP and arguements will begin.
There have been about 3 failed HPFP's here.
Try to get what info you can out of the dealer, even if the goal is simply to understand what happened even though it will have to be fixed.
Can fuel return back to the DFCM with crank, no start or does the engine have to be running for it to return fuel?
If they do find metal, then it's been failing for awhile.
This code could be LPFP too since it's a start failure but we have to trust the dealer they've already troubleshot per procedure and this is their find.
All we can do is guess since we lack the details.
... Does anyone have any news, hopefully good for me or am I fubared?
Unfortunately the only good news would be if you happen to have purchased the extended warranty and it is able to cover your issue. At least you got your use out of the truck. 113k miles in 2 years is some serious motoring...

Haven't there been at least that many complete engine failures posted here as well? For those venturing past 100k miles, it seems like the extended warranty is a wise insurance policy.
Here's the possible causes associated with that DTC. It does seem odd that this happened at shutdown, especially if it was running fine before you shut it down last. WIF light on? When did you last fill up and where?
Ask the dealer for the detailed diagnostics report that resulted in the recommendation for a complete fuel system replacement. They should not hesitate to provide it and should be able to provide it immediately as its what they would have relied on to make a proper diag and recommendation. Scan and post it here.
I would ask the dealer to test for gasoline in the fuel filter.
Good luck...
Great suggestion. Specifically...have the dealer send a fuel sample to an independent lab and offer to pay the fee. Should be around $20 or so...
Depending on what repairs are actually needed, the test results and your insurance policy...there is a chance you may be able to file a claim. (crossing fingers...)
Thanks everyone for the replies. Yeah I drove the dog pee out of it. Was hauling my 44' enclosed trailer with ease....loved it! I have no extended warranty and needless to say my wife is completely ticked off....at me of course. She would always put "stein" on the end of my name...now more then ever. I'm not even Jewish....lol!! Anyways seeing that I can't afford the repairs at this time I'm gonna have it towed back home, put it in the garage and tear it down myself. I will take my chances on putting a HPFP on it now. We'll see how it goes. I shall keep all interested posted on the outcome.
