Just currious here, why is everyone hoping that he has extended warrenty? If Ford won't honor the HPFP under the original 100K warrenty why would they under extended warrenty?
I am not saying you can't do it yourself but there are definately some things to look at before you get into it such as the below. From what I know, after a HPFP failure all the injectors need to be replaced.
Good luck
NOTICE:
The PCM is programmed with an IQA code for each fuel injector. The cylinder location of each

I didn't read anything from the OP about water in the fuel. A failed pump would be covered under an extended warranty.
Water in Fuel should be covered by his insurance company.
The thing here yall are jumping the gun. There has not been a true diagnosis. So speculation is just that. The code it had could be many things beside hpfp. Wait till op posts complete diag. Then have at it.

Sounds like he accepted the diagnosis and is going to attempt the HPFP replacement himself. He's braver than most as it involves several specialty tools. I've never heard of a "clutch housing gauge" and wouldn't have a clue how to use it. Anything that winds up to 29K PSI has got to be a PITA to replace and test. Hats off.
This is essentially why Ford vetos/flags warranty after a diagnosis then the vehicle is removed from the dealership before repairs. Customer takes it somewhere, patches it up, then sells/trades it while he can. Who is stuck with the repairs? The next owner. I think I'd be asking about history of the vehicle. Did the selling dealer know that there could have been prior repairs?
My wife called the insurance company and they wont cover it....she's looking for a new insurance company. lol One good thing is that my older brother is a diesel tech. Bad thing is he's 500 miles away, but he says he has the tools to do the job. I told him I would buy him lunch or make it, which ever is cheaper. lol He's gonna try to get down here next month and help me out. Until then the truck will sit. At least it will give me a chance to save some money for the parts. My bro did tell me about all that has posted and I will stay away from the truck until he can get here. The service manager at the dealer did tell me it was a bummer that it happened. A bummer? My wife just about kicked his *** when he said that. Hey the guy felt so bad that they didn't charge me ck out time. She's going to call Ford directly to see if they can help out on my nearly $40,000 truck that I am close to paying off. Will keep you posted. Thanks again for all the help.
Yeah the manager told me about the pinpoint test. They were messing with the left side fuel rail I noticed. The pump was only churning out 250 psi....guess it needs something like 4000 psi to start? It's all good....I'm gonna tinker around with it now that i know what to look for. There were metal shavings in the tank. I'm not a home body...at least I can start cleaning the tank, lines, filter housing, etc...... Hey I know a bit about diesels. With the help of my friends I was able to replace the camshaft in my 03 F250....what a disaster that was, but it ran a ton better. On that the #7 exhaust lifter came apart and the needle bearings tore the low oil pressure pump up.
