valve located on fuel filter bracket?

We have an 85 F250 6.9L There is a valve where the fuel filter attaches to the bracket or the housing. Could you tell me what that valve is called? This valve has been leaking fuel like crazy, what do we need to replace?

Thanks
Teresa

Dunno the official name but its for bleeding air out of the fuel system after a filter change. Or at least that's what I use it for. I'm sure a parts store can get one or go to the dealer and get one.

Are you talking about the black plastic piece on top of the filter housing with a wire? If so, that's the heater wire, and it's an o-ring in side that leaks in time.

If you are referring to the tire stem/valve looking part, generally referred to as a Scrader valve, I don't think I've ever heard of one leaking.

If it's the thumbwheel item on the bottom of the filter, it may be fixable by taking it off and cleaning it up, not sure if it's metal to metal, or if there may be an o-ring there. Or it can be replaced with a different filter that eliminates that bottom part, and has the water sensor built in.

It's the tire stem looking valve. Scrader valve? There is fuel leaking right out of it. Does anyone know why that would happen?

Thanks

I think the common fix for the leaking schrader valve is to remove it, and put a plug in its place.

The internals might be the same as a tire valve, but I don't know if there is a difference in the material inside that makes it diesel resistant or not.

Thanks guys. My husband will have time this weekend to take a better look at everything. That diagram will really help. It obviously needs to be replaced. He seemed to like the idea of using a plug. I think he read somewhere here on FTE that a Zerk plug/fitting could be used (like a grease fitting?) I don't know.

If you have any opinions on a type of plug to use let me know. You have all been very helpful and patient with me. I have dial up and it takes so long for pages to load so if I ask redundent questions please bear with me!

Thanks again.

The core could just be loose, use a valve stem tool to see if you are able to tighten it. If that doesnt cure the problem, just swing by a tire shop and ask them for a valve stem core. They will have 100's laying around and probably would give you a handfull for free.

^^^what he said.^^^
replacing the schrader valve with a plug is a bad idea.
once plugged there is no way to bleed air out of the fuel filter.
