Has any one had a problem with thier fuel filter valve? mine is closed but its not stoping fuel from leaking out it is a slow drip when it is running, any one have this problem before?
yes sir..very common.dealer only sells valve with oring for around 60 bucks..take these ## to a parts store and pick up just the orings..thats what goes bad in the valves....make sure they are diesel rated.
Do a search for fuel filter or fuel pump. You'll find a thread about the valve leaking and several people have reported that they had to replace the valve in some manner. I just ran across it while trying to determine if I have a air / fuel / performance issue.
Darn it Ron....you beat me to the punch. I thought I was FINALLY going to be able to help someone first.
That is the great thing about this place. Folks are ready, willing, and able to help. I'm just starting to pick up enough common knowledge to add in (a little)

Yep, can you imagine a better place where people actually hurry to be the first to help you out in the time of need.
try IH dealer or hydraulics shop first..i am suprised Napa does not have them..but you can get them here as well..get the $10 set and get 2 sets..you will need them again some day.its $20 to have them overnight though..
After doing a little research, there are many different flavors of VITON. Viton is just the registered trandemark of Dupont's but there are many different compounds of this kind of polymer. AL, A, BL, GBL, B, ETP, GFLT, GBLT , F, GF and TBR and each one reacts to chemicals such as #2 diesel fuel, biodiesel and petroleum products differently.
EXCELLENT information fellas! I need these exact o-rings.
Guzzle, nice source. I'm confused: they sell brown and black orings for the fuel drain valve, with the brown being $1 more than black? What is the difference and which do I need? IIRC, the stock orings are yellow. Thanks

Brown & Black?? Yes, I saw that but on many websites that I found, Viton (A) is Viton (A) and Viton (F) is Viton (F), no matter what the color.
Apparently, there is a color standards for orings and material but nobody adhears to it. I guess some people just like brown.
I also found this on another site:
"Q: Is there any difference between black and brown Viton o-rings?
Many different formulas have been used for Viton over the years, but black and brown Vitons are functionally interchangeable. Depending upon the formulation, the one may be slightly softer than the other, and black ones contain carbon black. The 'Chromassure' uniform color coding system was adopted to simplify identification of the different polymers, but it obviously isn't being followed as fluorocarbon o-rings (which include Viton, Kalrez and Kel-F) are all supposed to be black."
I don't think that the original FORD orings are Viton and the yellow is just a coating that starts to flake off (and probably assists in causing the leak to begin.)
Perfect! Thanks for the help! Would you beleive I just called the dealer on these earlier today and was told I could buy the entire valve for $50 or could buy an entire o ring seal kit for all ports on the fuel bowl for $36!! It's amazing...
Thanks again for the help. I'm ordering two sets of black Vitons!
