BWST asked me a good question the other day - the paint I used for color-matching the gauge pod. I have a project coming up, and I see a a whole lotta black plastic pieces available... but this means I have to throw my money down on a slow-mo roulette wheel of color. I think our collective experiences can save us all some days and dollars on dapper dashes. I'll start with the one paint I know for sure works well:
2000 Lariat with Tan/Parchment interior. The light tan A-pillar can be matched with Krylon Fusion (for plastic) Satin finish: #2438 Satin Khaki It has survived a lot of torture thus far, and you can't discern it from the original color or finish.
I used SpectraMatch paint from DieselManor when I did my gauges. They have most interior colors for our trucks. Pretty spendy but it worked really well.
So we basically contract this stuff out and there is no amassed knowledge of off-the-shelf substitutes? That idea went "thud".
I don't contract out.
When I needed to match the A-pillar of my 2001 tan Lariat, I pulled the piece and wandered through the paint isle at Lowes. I found the Rustoleum Khaki to be spot-on!

Not always. SEM has a pretty good line of interior paints. I use 15893 Med Prairie Tan for my '99 and 15843 Med Parchment for my 2000. I buy my SEM products at the local auto paint supply store. There are a variety of colors that make up the interior parts though. As best as I can tell, the dash is made up of 3 colors (instrument bezel, upper dash and glove box and lower dash). The A-pillars appear to match the door panel color which may or may not match the lower dash pieces. I'll try and get a better look at the pieces and compare colors.
