So, I've never liked the AutoMeter pillar-pod unit. Always thought it was bulky, kinda chunky looking. Back in my Mustang days, I ran a SOS pillar pod. There's nothing like it for our SD's, so I made my own. Hope you like it.
I used standard AutoMeter cups (for 2-1/16 gauges). I wrapped the edge of the gauge a few times around with electrical tape to create a "friction fit" into the cups. (My Aeroforce has been mounted this way for a long time with no trouble)
Marked them out where I wanted em, drilled some holes and rivited them to the factory A-Pillar. I found a VERY CLOSE to matching paint at Lowes for the cups. The wires (or lines) have to run out the back of the cups and into the pillar, I'm planning on covering the exposed harnesses and boost line with some loom or vacuum hose --- I'll get there.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the results.
A few things I would do differently if I could re-do them; I'd mount the cups with the openning slit on the very bottom (I clocked mine too far around and the boost gauge fittings cause the gauge to be mounted at an agle. Also, I'd mount the cups about 1-1/2" lower on the pillar.
Some of the pics show the first one I did on the column for my Aeroforce Interceptor.
Looks great. The only suggestion that I would have is to add reinforcement behind the rivets if you didn't. I would imagine that over time the pillar plastic could or would crack if not reinforced.
