Ok, so I noticed a few weeks ago that my starter on my 86 f150 was begining to make a horrible grinding noise, then after work one day I hit the key and all it did was make a spinning/whirring noise but wouldnt engage the flywheel. I have swapped the starter after having the new one checked. I also tried replacing the solenoid but the new one was stuck closed internally so I have the original solenoid back on now. Plus when we bought the truck we were told about a "security/anti theft switch" that was installed in the glove box that inhibits the starter. However, as I learned yesterday, someone has removed the neutral saftey switch and used this "security system" to bypass that component . I'm going to rewire that part today, it's spliced in about 4-5 different places. But that noise will NOT stop whenever I try to start it. Also noticed a shim on the starter when I was replacing it, is that necessary? All teeth on the flywheel are there and seem to be fine. Help please? Thank you to all in advance
